_A FILM BY SUZANNE WASSERMAN

(Suzanne Wasserman, the Director, Writer and Producer of this film is also the cousin of Janet Jagan)

Thunder in Guyana is a documentary film about Janet Rosenberg Jagan, who was elected President of Guyana, South America on December 15th, 1997. She is the first American-born woman to lead a nation. In Guyana, she is considered the mother of the nation. The film will tell the story of this extraordinary woman and her adopted homeland by interweaving the threads of the director’s family’s history, Janet’s incredible life story and the complex history of the little understood country of Guyana. This will be accomplished through the director’s unique perspective as an historian and as a relative.

Thunder in Guyana  has won three awards as well. Best documentary at Boston Jewish Film Festival, the Cine Golden Eagle and at the Myhelan Indie Film Festival.

Thunder in Guyana will also be part of the 2004-2005 season of Independent Lens on PBS. This is a national PBS broadcast. It will probably screen in March 2005  in conjunction with Women's History Month.
